Giusy Versace, Save the Dream ambassador and President of Disability No Limits, organized the third edition of the Happy Run in Reggio Calabria, Italy in order to promote awareness and encourage solidarity for disability sport. Funds raised in contributions and donations were put towards purchasing specialized sporting equipment for motivated youth with disabilities, providing access to sport for all.
More than 800 people participated in the Happy Run 2014, which involved a 3 km run, and demonstrations of various Paralympic disciplines. Giusy said, “I’m very happy with how this Happy Run went, not only for the ever-growing participation in the non-competitive race, but also for the increased involvement in the afternoon sports activities. With great satisfaction, I witnessed many young people try out the Paralympic disciplines that we set up on the board walk; this is a small step towards the integration of sport for disabled and able-bodied athletes.”
Save the Dream strongly believes in the power of sport to strengthen social inclusion and build critical life skills such as leadership, self-esteem and confidence, particularly for young people with disabilities. Through our support of events like the Happy Run and the inspiring testimony of our ambassador Giusy, we hope to work towards a world in which sport is not just every child’s right, but every child’s dream – one that is well within their reach.
