Save the Dream hosted its annual dinner during the ICSS Securing Sport conference, at the Banqueting House in Whitehall on October 6th 2014.
The celebratory event included presentations by ICSS President Mohammed Hanzab and Executive Director of Save the Dream Massimiliano Montanari; with the presence of Save the Dream athlete ambassadors Alessandro Del Piero, Christof Innerhofer, Giusy Versace and friends such as UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Nicole Regnier and US Olympic champion speedskater Travis Jayner, among others.
Enlivening the evening was a special performance by Adriana Calcanhotto, one of Brazil’s most cherished and renowned singer-composers, whose song ‘Esquadros’ – a meditation on moments, sights, sounds and colours inspired by life in Brazil – animates the soundtrack of the Magnum Photos with Save the Dream film. On display was a specially-curated exhibit of Magnum Photos with Save the Dream ‘Noites do Brasil’, a photographic collection of spectacular images taken in the streets of Brazil around the twelve 2014 Football World Cup host cities capturing the universal emotion, spirit and passion for sport.
H.E. Jose Ramos-Horta, Nobel Laureate, Former President of East Timor and member of our High-Level Panel gave the keynote address at the Securing Sport 2014 conference. Save the Dream also hosted a special session The Cost to our Children: Exposing the Realities of Hosting Major Sporting, examining the impact of major sporting events on children with the participation of Honourable Judge Fausto Pocar, Former President of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia; Susan Bissell, Chief of Child Protection at UNICEF; Anne Tiivas, Director, NSPCC Child Protection in Sport Unit; and Gary Stahl, Representative of UNICEF in Brazil.
