Introduction to Sport Diplomacy Dialogues

The intersection of sport and diplomacy has long been a powerful catalyst for peace, understanding, and societal change. Throughout history, sport has transcended cultural, political, and geographical boundaries, providing a unique platform for dialogue and reconciliation. From the ancient Olympic Games, which called for a temporary truce among warring states, to the modern-day global stage where athletes champion causes beyond their disciplines, sport has continually demonstrated its ability to influence international relations.

In this spirit, the Sport Diplomacy Dialogues initiative emerges as a collaborative effort by the Permanent Secretariat of the World Summit of Nobel Laureates for Peace and Save the Dream. This pioneering initiative seeks to harness the unifying power of sport to foster peace and promote diplomatic efforts. By bringing together Nobel Peace Laureates, influential figures in sports, international affairs experts, and athletes, the Sport Diplomacy Dialogues aim to spark high-level conversations on using sport as a tool for peacebuilding and conflict resolution.

Hosted in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico, the inaugural edition of Sport Diplomacy Dialogues takes place in conjunction with the XIX World Summit of Nobel Laureates for Peace. Supported by Mazda and the Soloviev Foundation, this event sets the stage for exploring sport’s role in addressing global challenges, inspiring collective action, and empowering athletes as advocates for peace.
