Save the Dream teamed up with UNESCO to support the 12th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) which took place in Doha from 3rd – 7th December 2014.
Save the Dream Ambassador, Double Olympic Gold and Double Olympic Bronze Medallist Penny Heyns led two educational workshops on 4th December at the first-ever Youth Programme. Developed by the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, QOC Secretary-General and Chairman of Save the Dream High-Level Panel, the Youth Programme aimed to inspire and motivate future world champions, record holders and Olympians of swimming. 250 future stars of the swimming world and 150 of their coaches are expected to attend the much-anticipated Youth Programme. Save the Dream and UNESCO also showcased their message of safe, fair and balanced sport through short films played on the arena screens during the Championships.
Save the Dream participated in the 3rd FINA World Aquatics Convention, a platform for industry leaders and decision makers to facilitate and support sustainable growth of aquatic sports which was held from 29th November – 1st December in Doha, Qatar. As Honorary Secretary of the FINA Athletes Committee, Penny Heyns was invited to speak at the session “From the Eyes of the Athlete”, designed to give an insider’s point of view on how the landscape of the sport has changed and thoughts on the key areas Aquatics should focus on for the future. Penny focused on the importance of young swimmers pursuing sport for the right reasons. Fellow athletes on the panel included Olympic Gold Medallists Aaron Peirsol, Alexander Popov, and Tamas Molnar among other champions.
