Save the Dream was proud to be chosen as the official education partner of the Al Kass International Cup, an international football tournament featuring Under-17 youth teams from some of the world’s most famous and decorated clubs, which took place in Doha from February 5th-15th, 2015.
For young, web-savvy players, online platforms including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram present fantastic opportunities to share their experiences with fans, followers and friends alike. However, while such activity is generally nothing more than harmless fun, some experts are warning of the growing dangers that social media can present to young footballers.
In an effort to create greater awareness of the risks of overindulgence in social media, Save the Dream teamed up with Al Kass to offer a panel discussion as part of our ongoing commitment to educate and safeguard young athletes.
Renowned coach Bora Milutinovic, and former Dutch great Edgar Davids joined the ICSS’ Head of Anti-Corruption and International Development Partnerships Werner Schuller, as they sought to share their knowledge and experience in a wider legacy initiative by the Al Kass International Organising Committee to ensure that players leave Qatar with more than just a footballing education.
In his opening remarks, Schuller said, “Criminals are very clever about the way they infiltrate and corrupt players. It’s important that young athletes are educated about the dangers of social media and amount of personal information they make public.”
“We would encourage all young players to recognise, resist and report any approaches by suspicious individuals immediately to their club or governing body,” Schuller added.
