The United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT), in partnership with the United Nations Interregional Crime Research Institute (UNICRI), the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) and the International Centre for Sport Security (ICSS) in consultation with the UN  Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED), launched the ‘Global Programme on Security of Major Sporting Events, and Promotion of Sport and Its Values as a Tool to Prevent Violent Extremism’ from UN in February 2020.

Save the Dream represents the ICSS with regards to the implementation of the second pillar of the UN Global Programme, which is, the promotion of the values of sport as a powerful means to counter terrorism and prevent violent extremism. This includes, inter alia, development of the major campaign ‘Sport says no to terrorism’, capacity building activities, the development of a guide for policy-makers on the role of sports and its values in preventing violent extremism and radicalization.

The Global Programme is supported by the State of Qatar, the United Nations Peace and Development Fund (UNPDF – funded by the People’s Republic of China) and the Republic of Korea.
