Using sport to bring migrants and refugees into the life of the local community in Fundão, and building a model other municipalities can adapt.

Movimento da Inclusão pelo Desporto (MID), the Movement for Inclusion through Sport, is a social innovation initiative that uses sport to strengthen the inclusion of migrants and refugees and to build cohesion in the local community.

In Fundão, the project brings the key local actors to the same table: the clubs that run sessions, the services that reach newcomers, and the municipal structures that decide where resources go. Together they work to raise participation, remove the practical barriers that keep people away, and make sport a regular part of local life instead of a one-off welcome event.

The stated aim is a replicable model for inclusive sport at municipal level: a way of working that another town, with different demographics and a different sporting landscape, could pick up and adapt.
