Educational workshops at the first-ever FINA Youth Programme, alongside the 12th World Swimming Championships in Doha.
Save the Dream took part in the first-ever FINA Youth Programme, held alongside the 12th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) in Doha, using the occasion to bring the values of sport to young people. Rather than staying on the margins of the event, the programme put young people at its centre while the world’s leading swimmers competed nearby.
Save the Dream teamed up with UNESCO to support the championships, held in Doha from 3 to 7 December 2014. Save the Dream Ambassador and double Olympic champion Penny Heyns led two educational workshops on 4 December, drawing on her own experience at the highest level of the sport.
The Youth Programme, developed by the Qatar Olympic Committee, aimed to inspire young people through the values of sport — placing education alongside elite competition rather than leaving young people to watch it from the stands. Save the Dream also took part in the third FINA World Aquatics Convention, contributing to the wider discussion around the championships.
