A national competition for Italian high school students promoting a positive culture of cheering in sport.
TifiAMO Positivo — Let’s Cheer Positively — invited Italian high school students to think about what it means to support a team, and to show that passion in the stands can go hand in hand with respect.
Implemented with the Italian Olympic Committee, the Ministry of Education, the Italian Football Federation and the UN Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute, the project set out to combat violence and aggression with respect, tolerance and healthy competition. Bringing sport, education and crime-prevention bodies together placed the issue in schools, among young people who are fans as well as students.
The competition was national, open to high schools across Italy. The first two prize winners took part in a study visit to Brazil during the 2014 World Cup, observing the child protection campaign in practice. The model was designed to be extended to other European countries. In this way the project linked behaviour in Italian stands to the wider question of how sport protects and respects young people.
