Save the Dream was invited to participate in a celebration of sport and youth with His Holiness Pope Francis, in the Vatican City, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Centro Sportivo Italiano in June 2014.
As part of a weekend of activities which celebrated young people and sport, Save the Dream co-founder and ICSS President, Mohammed Hanzab addressed the gathering at St. Peter’s Square, which included an estimated 100,000 people as well as millions more watching live online.
In his address, President Hanzab called on people around the world to eliminate violence, cheating and discrimination in sport and work together to promote positive values like fair play, respect and team spirit. As Save the Dream ambassador, Giusy Versace, also played a key role in today’s festival, greeting Pope Francis on his arrival at the event.
An estimated 20,000 children and young athletes from sports clubs around Italy gathered for this special festival, providing an ideal platform to promote and raise awareness about the importance of protecting the purity of sport.
On this historic occasion, we also joined forces with the Centro Sportivo Italiano, one of the oldest and largest active sports club associations in Italy, as part of our strategy to empower young people around the world through sport. We are working closely together to develop a range of programmes, events and initiatives to promote ethical values in sport to youth around the world.
