A joint campaign with UNICEF, running from the 2014 FIFA World Cup to the Rio 2016 Games, encouraging people to report violence against children.
Proteja Brazil — It’s in your hands to protect was a joint campaign of Save the Dream and UNICEF that ran from the 2014 FIFA World Cup to the Rio 2016 Games. It started from the recognition that major sporting events, which draw large numbers of visitors to host cities, can also increase the risks children face — and that everyone present has a part to play in reporting violence against them.
The campaign was built around a toll-free helpline operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, receiving reports of human rights violations and maintained by the National Ombudsman for Human Rights of Brazil. A smartphone application, Proteja Brasil, was developed to make reporting easier for residents and visitors alike.
Awareness messages were carried by hotels, bars, taxis, buses, airports, airlines, print media, billboards and social media. Social workers approached tourists and residents during the Games, and public figures — among them Save the Dream Ambassador Alessandro Del Piero and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Danny Glover — lent their support.
